Police Investigate Shooting of Aragon Teen

A shooting in Aragon left a 14- year old boy dead and a 15 year-old detained by the Police Wednesday afternoon around 4pm.

Police and GBI officials were on the scene on Bellview Rd. which runs off New Prospect Rd. at 5:30pm investigating.

While police have not identified either of the individuals, they are questioning the 15 year-old and have not determined whether the shooting was accidental or intentional.

Authorities are treating the case as a possible homicide.

Circuit City To Close All Georgia Stores Except Rome Location

Amid tough economic times it appears that electronics giant Circuit City will close all of its Georgia Stores except the location here in Rome.

CBS 46 Atlanta is reporting that employees at Atlanta area stores were notified today that the stores will close within 60 days.

The Wall Street Journal reported last month that Circuit City was planning to close 150 stores and lay off thousands of employees.

One Dead In Southern Polk Accident

One person has died after an accident on the Old Cedartown Highway near Cave Spring just over the county line in Polk County.

The victim has been identified as 58 year old Nell J. Grant, according to Polk County Assistant Coroner Tony Brazier.

Grant who was employed by the Georgia School for the Deaf in Cave Spring apparently lost control of the vehicle about three miles west of Cedartown and veered of the side of the road hitting some trees.

Emergency personnel from Floyd County responded initially to the scene and reported back to Floyd County 911 that the accident was actually across the line in Polk County.

Floyd units continued on to the scene until Polk Emergency Personnel arrived.

The Georgia State Troopers said her vehicle sustained heavy damages but there are thoughts that the woman may have suffered some sort of medical dilemma that caused the accident.

Last Of Former Polk Officers Sentenced

The last of the defendants involved in the taking of weapons from the Polk County police evidence room was sentenced to 12 months probation in Rome by US District Court Judge Harold L. Murphy Friday.

Thomas Matthew Meeks of Piedmont Alabama entered a plea to a government information alleging acts of bribery.

The investigation also got pleas from former Police Chief Billy Wills and Captain Barry Wallace. Wills was sentenced to a year’s probation for a guilty plea to making false statements to investigators while Wallace got a year in prison for receiving and possessing stolen firearms.

Murder Suspect Arrested in Alabama

Tyson Wilson, the 29 year old Rockmart man wanted in connection with the murder of one man and shooting of two others last weekend in Rockmart was taken into custody in Talladega, Alabama Wednesday morning. Rockmart Police chief Larry Wilson confirmed the arrest this morning. Two females have also been taken into custody this morning for transporting Wilson to Alabama yesterday. A juvenile has also been arrested in connection with the shooting death of 49 year old Ronnie Mark Ferguson. Prosecutors are weighing evidence to determine whether or not the juvenile will be tried as an adult.

Bomb Threat Causes Evacuation Of Engineering Fabrics In Rockmart

A bomb threat at Engineering Fabrics in Rockmart caused the evacuation of the building around 8am on Tuesday morning.

According to sources, police swept the building looking for any type of explosive but nothing was found.

According to police, the bomb threat was made from a wireless phone near the facility. At this point, police believe it was a hoax.

Employees were allowed back inside the plant just after 10am.

1 Dead, 2 Life-Flighted After Triple Shooting in Rockmart

Polk County Authorities along with the GBI are investigating a triple shooting Friday Night in Rockmart.

The original call to Polk 911 occurred around 9:51 PM when someone reported hearing 6 shots in the area of Church St. and Bluff St. Just after this, another complaintant reported that there were two victims found at Pearl St. and Long Ave.

The intial victims were a male and female, with one of them sustaining a gunshot wound to the head. While the condition of the first male victim is unclear, it was reported that the female received a guns.hot wound under the chin. Both were eventually transported by Emory Life-Fight from the Dean Sports Complex

30 minutes after the original call went out, another male victim was located in the area. This victim had received two gunshot wounds to the head, possibly by a small caliber handgun, with no exit wounds. Authorites did call an additional Life-Flight Choppr in, but the unidentified 54 year-old man died of his injuries.

Though Police searced the area, they were unable to locate the two suspects, described as Short black males. One was reportedly in his 20’s wearing a Georgia Bulldogs shirt and armed with a small chrome pistol. The second is described as being stocky in build and wearing a black shirt.

The GBI was called in and is leading the investigation.

Polk Medical Center Honors Heroes

Polk Medical Center hosted a BBQ Luncheon to honor local heroes in remembrance of September 11.

The lunch was held at PMC and local professionals including members of the National Guard, City of Cedartown Employees, Polk County Sherriff’s Office Employees, and Polk County Fire Department Employees among others attended the luncheon.

The lunch was provided free of charge as a thank you for the work they do for the community each day.
